Skin Prep Considerations, to get your complexion looking as flawless as possible for your makeup appointment:

  • Exfoliating: it can be as simple as using a hot wash cloth on your face two nights prior to your makeup appointment, gently scrubbing your face and removing any build up of dry skin, in order to achieve an even foundation application. Follow up with an alcohol-free toner and a moisturizer to rejuvenate and calm the skin.

  • Lips: you can also exfoliate your lips with gently with a sugar scrub, followed by a lip mask to get your lips soft and smooth for any lipstick finish.

  • Brows: for those with fuller brows, or those wanting more a sculpted shape, the best results are achieved when making sure to shape your brows with a trusted brow tech prior to your special event makeup appointment. This includes methods such as threading, sugaring, waxing, and simple tweezing of unwanted hairs prior to your makeup application.

  • Potential Breakouts: it’s best to avoid experimenting with harsh products to attempt to control or suppress acne, and to avoid picking at your face if any breakouts do occur β†’ instead, try icing your face and any inflammation. Pimple patches are also a great solution to treat the skin while avoiding drying-out and over-stressing your skin if any breakouts should occur.

  • Moisturizers: for the day of appointment, please show up clean faced and makeup-free. If you have a moisturizer, that is water-based and lightweight feel free to moisturize prior to makeup. We recommend avoiding any heavy moisturizers or oil-based serums on the day of, as these products may cause product separation and disagree with any silicone-based, traditional foundations selected for your application.

β†’ Prior to makeup we will assess the condition of your skin and skin tendencies, as the makeup application will start with a gentle toner and moisturizer selected for your skin type. Whether it be a moisturizer for oil-control, or moisturizing technique for combination skin types requiring a face-mapping application, or moisturizers selected for dry, or normal skin types, we tailor the skin prep and makeup products to your desired outcome for longevity, with foundation finishes to suit your preferences, and the climate/weather on your special event.

  • Weather Considerations: for the summer months, less is more as for your daily moisturizer, use only as much as you need, which can often be a very minimal amount of product. Charcoal blot sheets are also great to have to quickly dab and absorb any sweat or excess oil on the skin β†’ blot sheets are also included in your makeup touch-up kit.

During your appointment we address oil/sweat control for the makeup application for your skin type and the season/weather of special event. For winter months, make sure to exfoliate more regularly with the wash cloth method β†’ also, tone and moisturize after morning and nightly face cleansing, to keep the skin hydrated and to compensate for dryer months.
